Amar is a Graduate in Film, Television and Media Studies from Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia. After graduating, he spent a few years working on film sets including The Constant Gardener. He then started off Aperture Africa Productions (www.apertureafrica.com), a theatre and event production house based in Nairobi, Kenya. Aperture Africa has over the years built a reputation for staging rib cracking comedies and extravagant award winning musicals including the Jungle Book, Robin Hood and Cinderella.
Amar holds over 15 years of teaching experience in Drama and Performing Arts. He is also a Cambridge certified Moderator for Drama (IGSCE). Over the last few years he and Aperture Africa have won several awards for acting, direction and for various productions staged.
Amar is an avid outdoor enthusiast and loves to travel, explore and be out in nature.
He says, 'Ages 4-16 years are critical for any child’s development. And drama plays an integral role in developing the much needed soft skills. After much research, Helen O’Grady’s vision, teaching angle and structure was exactly in line with what we have been looking for. Kenya is very much ready for this amazing platform and we can’t wait to get this on the road.'
A graduate in MORSE (Maths, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics) from Warwick University (U.K.) and a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant, Jinita holds years of experience in the finance field. A former banker, she took the leap of faith and joined Aperture Africa as a Director 5 years ago and has never looked back.
She now handles everything under the sun from marketing, client liaison, accounting and yummy hot meals. Apart from her background in finance, Jinita is an avid painter and her creative side helps plug in the holes be it with set design, costume design or just the overall look and feel of a production.
When she is not at her desk she is out travelling and exploring the African bush - a valid reason to escape the office and take off on the slightest opportunity! :)
She says, 'Helen O’Grady seems to offer a holistic approach to drama through a fun and interactive way. Through our experience with children and youth in the past, this is exactly what makes them tick, absorb and develop. We can’t wait to interact with the rest of the Helen O’Grady family and begin this fun journey.'
African director, Duncan Rice, says, 'We are so pleased to have the calibre of Amar and Jinita in our Academy. The have much experience of the performance arts in Kenya with their Production Company, Aperture Africa, and we look forward to many thousands of children having their lives changed through our international programme.'
