ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL

AMAR DESAI BSC. FILM, TELEVISION & MEDIA STUDIES, CAMBRIDGE CERTIFIED DRAMA MODERATOR
Amar is a Graduate in Film, Television and Media Studies from Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia and was awarded Kenya's Top 40 Men under 40 in 2019. He has won several theatrical awards including Director of the Year, Producer of the year Actor of the year, Theatre star etc and for his productions Best Set, Best Sound & Lighting, Best Costumes, Best Direction amongst others.
He has worked on several film sets including The Constant Gardener and runs Aperture Africa Productions (www.apertureafrica.com), a theatre and event production house based in Nairobi. Aperture Africa has over the years built a reputation for staging rib cracking comedies and extravagant award winning musicals including the Jungle Book, Robin Hood and Cinderella.

Amar holds over 15 years of teaching experience in Drama and Performing Arts. He is also a Cambridge certified Moderator for Drama (IGSCE). When not on stage or teaching drama, he loves to travel, explore and be out in nature.
SAMBA MZERA
TEACHER
Samba Mzera is an excited and ever learning filmmaker and actor with an urge of telling a variety of unique stories. Born in 1997, her passion for the arts led her to pursue a Degree in Film Production, which she still hopes to learn more, as she considers the arts as an 'ever learning and changing field'. Having a strong passion for acting and things that push her creatively, teaching drama is something that makes her days more fulfilling. She also dabbles in editing, art, and doing voiceovers.
AURIE OKATCH
TEACHER
"A little zazz never hurt nobody." Applying this statement in her day to day life, Sheila believes that in all things we do, we should always add some zazz. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Nairobi, Sheila has over three years experience as a performing artist, having starred in award winning musicals and plays produced by locally renowned theatre groups. She lives by creativity, collaboration and soul."
AKINYI OLUOCH
TEACHER
Akinyi Oluoch is a Fun, Outgoing and Interactive Human. She is not only the coolest Drama Tracher in town, she also doubles up as a Psychologist. Akinyi is a multi faceted African Queen born in 1996; She is an Actor, Producer, Emcee and Entrepreneur. She has worked with productions such as Too Early for Birds, Aperture Africa, Nairobi Performing arts Studio, Chatterbox, Furet Films. If Akinyi wasn't teaching Drama at Hellen O'Grady Drama Academy, she would probably be volunteering full time at an Ashram in India or in a Rural Arts Centre in Kisumu.
DOANNA OWANO
TEACHER
Doanna Owano is a multi-disciplinary, neurodivergent creative based in Nairobi, Kenya. She is passionate about storytelling through performance, writing, and design. She is a musical theatre enthusiast who enjoys singing, reading YA fiction, re-watching coming-of-age films by women about women, and RuPaul's Drag Race.
DIYA VAYA
TEACHER
Simply a 'Jack of all trades, master of one.' Diya Vaya is a seventeen-year-old creative who enjoys anything which offers the chance to colour outside the lines. 5+ years of extensive experience in the theatre field through working on the annual school productions & getting practical knowledge on each of the stages of the production pipeline. Experienced in mentoring students in drama and building their performance skills. Apart from drama, she from time to time wallows in the art of film as well as writing. Diya simply appreciates the power held in art to reflect and sell imperfection rather than understand it.
CHANDNI VAYA
TEACHER
Born in 1991 Nairobi, Chandni is a versatile Afro-Indian artist with her expression ranging from design to performance as an actor, singer, dancer, set and costume design and as a make up artist. She’s a graduate with a bachelors degree in Interior Architecture, a dance instructor at Step Up and Move Nairobi and a yoga practitioner and guide with Africa Yoga Project. Vaya is also a passionate surrealist painter, a pattern photographer and a budding violinist.
